The Chess Match

The Chess Match, art by Bryan Crowson. December 11, 2016. My friend Stan Diel commissioned this art as a gift for his friend Fei Qiao. Fei recently earned her doctoral degree from the University of Alabama, and soon she is returning home to China. The image combines things that Fei loves -- bison, otters, chess, astronomy -- and creates a charming little fairytale about a midnight chess match between a bison and an otter. The crimson border represents the University of Alabama, where Stan and Fei became friends.
